Whiteout

Whiteout is a weather condition in which visibility and contrast are severely reduced by snow or sand. The horizon disappears completely and there are no reference points at all, leaving the individual with a distorted orientation.

Christmas didn't exist for me in 2011, in fact none of the holidays this year have been celebrated or recognized in my mind. I felt no real attachment to anything, and I haven't desired to really celebrate anything this year. I think what happened this year can be best described as a "Whiteout" when everything disappears completely and you have no real direction or goal. Yet, I know how this whole situation came about and even though 2012 is a few days away, I know that I won't let what happened in 2011 occur in 2012. But what happened in 2011, was basically a result of what happened in 2010. So I've been very cautious about the choices I've made in 2011, so that certain elements don't occur in 2012.

It's always been my belief that shit doesn't just happen in our lives, and that shit basically takes time to occur. The choices we make often times doesn't have immediate consequences, sometimes it takes a few months for those results to grow into a devastating situation. I've learned a lot about myself in 2011, I've learned to think 30 to 90 days ahead so that I can find a way to anticipate the consequences of my decisions. However that doesn't mean that ever consequence has to be a positive or negative, it just means that the outcome is different than what we expect. An example of this can be finishing school, anyone who goes to school expects to graduate, might even expect to get a few bad grades, but no one ever expects to run out of money that hinders their ability to finish school. Just like no future parent anticipates the potential of their child taken away from them because they are an unfit parent.

Whiteouts can occur in our lives when all points of reference in our lives disappear or become unseen. And even though being lost can be downright scary at times, and even depressing, sometimes it can present you with new observations and opportunities. 2012 has presented me with new opportunities to improve my life and I feel grateful that I have the chance to turn 2012 into an awesome year and experience for myself. And I know it can be an awesome year for everyone else as well... but often times we have to prepare for it and work hard to make it the best year we can make it. So I'm going to make 2012 the ultimate year of opportunities and rewards; and if a whiteout should occur... I'll be ready for that as well.
