Moving Past Complacency

It doesn't take a lot to realize that some people in this world are wound a bit too tightly, and that people need to breathe and relax more. Sometimes, I get the impression that people like being stressed, constantly worrying, and looking for a reason to be pissed off and upset about things. In the past, that use to be me, but now... I'm trying to move past that area.

Based on my current life, the only thing I seem to get stressed out about is waking up on time for work. I don't really worry about debt, the fact I weight 215 lbs, or even the fact that I don't play as many gigs as I want to. However, over the weekend I realized that one factor of being complacent is forgetting to have fun and enjoy life. If that means getting drunk, high, or going shopping for something you don't necessarily need... then by all means... you are having fun and enjoying life. Of course you don't need to do anything destructive in order to enjoy life either. However, we do need to spend more time making the best of our days instead of wallowing in the region of complacency.

Complacency is a habit of behavior that can be corrected, but it means doing things that challenge our ability to enjoy life on a daily basis, and that even means doing things we may not feel like doing. I think moods or emotions when it comes to enjoying life can be a hindrance to the progress we need to make in life. And we can become complacent simply because we FEEL too much, and feel like we have to have some kind of authoritarian control over what we experience and what we do. I know for a fact from 2007 to 2011, I just became use to not playing gigs, as if going out and looking for work as a musician would take up too much of my time. Now, I don't care how I feel about music, I just want to play, play, and play. Because no matter what I think or feel when I'm not playing, I know that once I'm with my bass and I'm plugged in, and I'm having a great time, and that complacency doesn't exist.

Amen.
