Scotoma is a term that I first heard in the movie "The Da Vinci Code", and the phrase that followed the term was: "The mind sees what it wants to see."
I found the term to be quite insightful considering people generally don't see the truth that is right in front of their eyes. And often times enough they only see what their emotions want them to see... its as if people get caught up in the moment and not take into account the big picture.
I've been very willing to simply lay back and enjoy each single day. Blogging has really helped me to enjoy every single day, because just being able to write my thoughts has allowed me to soak in the 24 hrs that I'm supposedly working or relaxing.
But back to Scotoma, I truly believe that in our vision is sometimes diminished in life, we sometimes overlook the depth and meanings in life. We only choose to see what we desire, want, need, or lust after in this world. We don't see our friends with more love, we don't see our family with more closeness, we don't see the people we work with more understanding, and often times we don't even look at the changes in our personal lives. We just get caught up in a single viewpoint and in that moment... and I don't necessarily know why we as human beings choose to close our minds to other possibilities and options.
My choices are difficult and responsible, but I know the reason they are so challenging is because my vision has expanded and I want to see things with more understanding and depth.
